Pharmacist Information

Attached is the New Mexico Medicaid "Letter of Direction" regarding reimbursement parity. The letter is directed to the MCO's contracted with NM Medicaid. It gives them 90 days from March 24th to put procedures in place.

The LOD applies to reimbursement for Pharmacist Clinicians and reimbursement for pharmacists prescribing under the authority granted in the approved protocols.

Pharmacist Clinician

NMPhA encourages all of its members to pursue the highest possible levels of practice. Certification as a Pharmacist Clinician is a great way expand the role of pharmacists and enhance patient care. Ph.C. Physical Assessment Course

Sign up for the Pharmacist Clinician Physical Assessment course.  This 60 hr. ACPE accredited course is offered as a week long training in the Spring each year and in the Fall over 3 weekends in (October & November) with a Final OSCE Summative Exam.

Immunization: 2 hours of live CE every two years

Continuing education:  Any pharmacist exercising prescriptive authority for vaccines shall complete a minimum of 0.2 CEU of live ACPE approved vaccine related continuing education every two years.  Such continuing education shall be in addition to requirements in 16.19.4.10 NMAC.


Emergency Contraception: 2 hours of CE but does not have to be live

Continuing education:  Any pharmacist exercising prescriptive authority for emergency contraception drug therapy shall complete a minimum of 0.2 CEU of ACPE approved emergency contraception drug therapy related continuing education every two years.  Such continuing education shall be in addition to requirements in 16.19.4.10 NMAC.


Tobacco Cessation: 2 hours of CE but does not have to be live

Continuing education:  Any pharmacist exercising prescriptive authority for tobacco cessation drug therapy shall complete a minimum of 0.2 CEU of ACPE approved tobacco cessation drug therapy related continuing education every two years.  Such continuing education shall be in addition to requirements in 16.19.4.10 NMAC.


TB Testing:   No additional CE is specified by the Board of Pharmacy

Continuing education:  Any pharmacist exercising prescriptive authority for TB testing shall complete continuing education as specified by the centers for disease control.


Naloxone:  2 hours of live CE every two years

Continuing education: Any pharmacist exercising prescriptive authority for naloxone drug therapy shall complete a minimum of 0.2 CEU of live ACPE approved naloxone drug therapy related continuing education every two years. Such continuing education shall be in addition to requirements in 16.19.4.10 NMAC.


Hormonal Contraception: 2 hours of live CE every two years

Continuing education:  any pharmacist exercising prescriptive authority for hormonal contraception drug therapy shall complete a minimum of 0.2 CEU of live ACPE approved hormonal contraception drug therapy related continuing education every two years.  Such continuing education shall be in addition to requirements in 16.19.4.10 NMAC.
