Pharmacy Technician


Pharmacy technicians are expected to be in continued demand.  The number of jobs should continue to increase. Pharmacy technicians work closely with pharmacists and other health care professionals in a number of settings like retail, hospital, and long-term care facilities. 

How to be become a pharmacy technician in New Mexico:
  • Register with the NM Board of Pharmacy.  Forms are available at 
    • You must be nationally certified or become certified within a year of registering.

    • Pharmacy technician certification is done through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).  
This requires the successful completion of an exam.  Information is available at http://www.ptcb.org/.


Certified Pharmacy Technician licensure renewal:
  • A CPhT must renew his or her license every two years. Some of the renewal requirements have changed in the past few years so check the PTCB website for current requirements:
