To help the fight against prescription drug abuse and diversion, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has announced that it will bring back the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day event. The 10thTake-Back Day event will be held from 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at participating locations nationwide. DEA will list collection sites on its website; a link to the list of sites will also be available on the AWARXE® Prescription Drug Safety Program website. Consumers who are unable to visit a location on Take-Back Day can use AWARXE’s drug disposal locator tool, which allows consumers to search for disposal sites year-round. Properly disposing of medications keeps medicine out of the hands of someone who might abuse them and also protects the environment. In September 2014, DEA published its Final Rule on Disposal of Controlled Substances, which allows some DEA registrants to modify their registration to become authorized collectors. More information is available in the Pharmacists section of the AWARXE website.
